Here at LDM we are affiliated to the Mountain Training to deliver Hill & Mountain Skills and Rock Skills courses at all levels.
The Mountain Training are the organisation that oversees the mountain and rock climbing qualifications and awards structure in the UK and Ireland for hill walking, rock climbing and mountaineering.

Lake District Mountaineering work alongside Mountain Training to help deliver their vision, mission and ethos in all we do across our courses. Rock Skills Introduction

A Rock Skills Introduction course is ideal for beginner climbers; those who have never climbed on rock and those with limited experience of climbing indoors.
BY THE END OF THE COURSE, YOU CAN EXPECT TO:
Have covered the course content in a safe and enjoyable outdoor environment and classroom-style setting.
Have climbed outside for a good proportion of the day on an appropriate crag.
Be in a strong position to take a climbing wall belay test.
Be ready to attend a Rock Skills Intermediate course
Rock Skills Intermediate

Rock Skills Intermediate courses are aimed at people with some experience of climbing who want to improve their movement skills, develop their ropework skills and learn about traditional protection.
BY THE END OF THE COURSE YOU CAN EXPECT TO:

Have climbed outside for a good proportion of each day on an appropriate crag; and
Be in a strong position to second a lead climber on natural rock and participate safely in a climbing session.

A Learn to Lead Trad Climbs course is all about learning trad climbing skills including how to place protection, build belays and move in an assured manner on rock.

Rock Skills Learn to Lead Sport Climbs courses are ideal for people who are ready to progress to leading sport routes on rock, improve their lead climbing confidence or refresh their leading skills.

A Mountain Skills course is an ideal choice for people interested in exploring mountainous terrain and want to develop their confidence in the mountains
Hill Skills

A Hill Skills course is your key to getting started in countryside and moorland walking. No previous hill walking experience is required because the content of the course is aimed at beginners.
On both the Mountain Skills and Hill Skills courses you can expect to cover the following skills and techniques:
Planning
How to successfully plan a hill walk in the UK or Ireland.
Walking skills
What things should you consider while out walking and what can make life easier (pace, nutrition, movement skills etc.).
Clothing and equipment
Being suitably dressed and equipped can make the difference between a great day out and a complete disaster.
Weather
How it affects the hills and your day out.
Navigation in the hills
Everything from selecting a compass to navigation strategies and an intro to GPS.
Environmental knowledge
How to minimise your impact on the hill and information on good practice and useful organisations.
Hazards and emergency procedures in the hills
How to respond to any hazards you encounter and what to do in an emergency.
