Route Feature - KETTLE CRAG

Updated: Sep 30, 2021

For anybody looking for quiet crags then this is a hidden gem.

Kettle crag is situated on the lower slopes of Pike O' Blisco and is hidden from view when looking up the valley from Great Langdale.

You can walk into this crag from the ODG, crossing the weir in Oxendale and proceeding straight up the slopes. However, we recommend setting off from near the cattle grid underneath Side Pike, and following the path towards Pike O'Blisco following Redacre Gill before breaking off onto a good trod leading rightwards and into the top of the venue via the fence line.

The crag itself boasts fantastic views, across the valley towards the Langdale Pikes is an impressive backdrop and the climbing is wonderful on immaculate rock.

Serendipity - Kettle Crag

The climbing can be delicate but the grading is modest - its a fantastic place for the VDiff - VS leader, offering a host of slabs and friendly angled walls. The gear is good although a little fiddly - offsets recommended.

Routes to try are Serendipity and Red Slab - both 3 star Severe's and without a doubt the best routes at the crag. The MVS lines on the climbers right are also worth a mention.

We thoroughly recommend this crag and will be paying further visits in the future.
